On April 3, Myrtle Beach authorities arrested four people on suspicion of participating in various illegal drug activities. According to the Horry County Police Department, members of its Street Crimes Unit received a tip regarding alleged loitering and illegal activities taking place at WoodSpring Suites. As a result of the information, officers conducted surveillance at the site and observed someone allegedly smoking marijuana and consuming alcohol.
Two other individuals sitting in a vehicle were found to have 33 grams of marijuana, Suboxone sublingual strips, ecstasy pills, a digital scale, a loaded handgun and a substantial amount of cash. The first defendant was charged with possession of a controlled substance Schedule I to V. One defendant in the car was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol. The second defendant in the car was charged with possession with the intent to distribute and possession of other controlled substances Schedule I to V.
A fourth individual in the area was observed holding a bag of white powder. As officers approached him, he allegedly stuffed the bag into his mouth and tried to flee from the scene. Officers apprehended him and retrieved the bag of powder, which reportedly tested positive for heroin and crack cocaine. The defendant was also found to have $1,137 in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with the manufacture and distribution of ice, crack or crack cocaine and the manufacture and distribution of narcotic drugs in Schedule I, LSD or Schedule II.
Defendants facing drug charges could feel frightened and alone. However, a criminal defense attorney may stand by a defendant's side and work to ensure that his or her rights are protected. Legal counsel might be able to get the charges reduced or dismissed.Source: Myrtle Beach Online, "Guns, drugs, cash seized by police during Myrtle Beach area drug operation," Alex Lang, April 6, 2019
